“Philly” Sugar Cookies

Today I would like to share with you a recipe that came from my grandmother. Every Christmas she would make a huge tray of cookies…everything from brownies to hermits to these lovely cream cheese treasures. They were always the first to disappear from the tray, and it’s no wonder because they are SO incredibly delicious. They are the perfect combination of sugar cookie and cream cheese rolled up into a small gem of a cookie.

Serves: 48
  • 1 (8 oz.) package Philadelphia cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup butter, softened (can use margarine instead)
  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1&3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • dash of salt
  • *colored sugar for rolling
  1. In a stand mixer, combine the cream cheese, butter, and sugar until smooth. Add the almond extract, flour and salt, mixing until well combined. Refrigerate until chilled, at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat oven to 400 degrees. Form tablespoons of dough into balls. Roll in colored sugar; place on parchment paper lined cookie sheet and flatten slightly with the bottom of a glass.
  3. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until set. (Cookies should not be browned-just nicely set and very lightly golden on the bottom).

  1. Hi Michelle, These look amazing. I’ve never tried cookies with Philli cheese in them so am intrigued. I’ll be adding this to my ‘to make & bake’ list. Thanks for the inspiration.

Also, if you don’t mind, I’d love if you’d link these up (and any other dessert creations) on Sugar & Slice Sunday link party. Each week Sunday-Thursday.
