Slow Cooker Honey Sesame Chicken

I have seen varieties of sesame honey chicken circulating Pinterest, but the picture from Family Fresh Meals really caught my eye. I adapted their recipe, using two large one pound frozen chicken breasts, extra honey, extra cornstarch, and voiding the red pepper flakes.

After slowly cooking for hours, our house smelled somewhat like a sweet Chinese restaurant. (It was the first thing my husband commented on as he came through the door after teaching all day). The meal turned out even better than I expected, and I’m posting the recipe just two days after making it. This is one to add to my meal rotation for sure!

Total time
Serves: 3-6
  • 2 lbs. skinless boneless chicken breasts, frozen
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 heaping cup honey
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup diced onion
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 Tablespoon cornstarch dissolved in 3 Tablespoons water
  • Sesame seeds for sprinkling
  • rice
  • cooked broccoli
  1. Place frozen chicken breasts in slow cooker. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. In a bowl, combine honey, soy sauce, diced onion, ketchup, oil, and minced garlic. Pour over chicken.
  3. Cook on LOW heat for 5 hours or until chicken is cooked through.
  4. Remove chicken from slow cooker, leaving sauce behind. Pour sauce into a medium saucepan. Add the cornstarch that has been dissolved in water. Cook over low heat, stirring frequently, until desired thickness.
  5. Meanwhile, shred chicken with a fork. Stir into thickened sauce.
  6. Serve chicken on top of rice with cooked broccoli. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.

  1. Pinned!  This one sounds so good.  I might try it with bone-in chicken.
